Shift Forward Program

SHIFT FORWARD PROGRAM ** New for 2026-2027 Season **

Hockey Canada has introduced the “Shift Forward” Program for the 2026-2027 season, this is replacing the Respect in Sport Program. The Shift Forward will cover a variety of topics focused on shifting hockey’s culture forward. The modules within the program will cover the following themes: hockey culture, being an active bystander, how to have crucial conversations, autonomy, individual rights, grooming and consent.

Any current Respect in Sport certificates will remain valid until their expiry date.

Shift Forward - Parent Course

If you are new to hockey or have an expired Respect in Sport Certificate you will need to take the Shift Forward Course.

• Shift Forward Parent Course is mandatory for registration

• Only one parent/guardian needs to take the course

• Parents are responsible for completing and paying for the course

• Certificate is valid for four (4) years

Parents who have previously taken Respect in Sport:

• Check if your certificate is still valid, click here. Certification is valid for four (4) years.

Shift Forward - Coach

The Shift Forward Coach Program educates coaches and team staff on how to recognize, understand, and respond to bullying, abuse, harassment, and discrimination. It plays a vital role in ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all participants

If you are new to coaching or have an expired Respect in Sport Certificate you will need to take the Shift Forward Coach Course.

• All Rostered (carded) team staff are required to complete this training

• Fees for this course will be reimbursed by the association
